acknowledgement

I recognize the land my family and I live on as Traditional, Ancestral, Unceded Ch’iyáqtel territory and am committed to seeing their land safely returned to them or compensated for. As such, one of my goals is to recognize and consider my obligations to Coast Salish/Dakelh Law, governance, kinship, language, land, and culture.

introduction

éy swáyél, my name is Peggy.

I am a Teacher (UBC NITEP B.Ed. 2001/M.Ed. Indigenous Knowledges/Indigenous Pedagogies 2014), graphic/facilitator, artist, and author (Spring 2023). I have worked as a classroom Teacher, District Teacher, Indigenous Mentor Teacher, union leader, and adjunct Professor.

I identify as a worker and a Canoe Puller. A tenet of Coast Salish War Canoe racing is to “keep your head down and pull!”; it alludes to not looking around at distractions and putting ALL your energy into your paddle. In the spirit of my training and discipline I wish to exert my energies towards creativity, sovereignty, futurity, and joy in its’ many forms.

I wish to thank all the Workers, in advance, that create safe and comfortable spaces. Someone sets up links, creates digital and real-life safety measures, connects emails, and organizes all of us. Therefore, Yalh yexw kw’as ho:y - Musi cho - Merci - Thank you

my hands are raised in respect to YOU!

I am thankful to you for setting your other work aside so we may be together and do the work at hand! Yalh yexw kw’as ho:y - Musi cho - Merci - Thank you
